Mystery of the 12-Year-Old McDonald's Meat just add bacon
Link #141149 submitted by Mac on Oct 6, 2008 09:56pm.   (+380XP)
http://tooshytostop.wordpress.com/2008/10/01/mystery-of-the-12-year...
In 1996, Karen Hanrahan, a wellness educator and nutritional consultant from Illinois, bought a plain McDonald’s hamburger but did not eat it. “I took the bun and the meat, arranged the pieces on a plate, and stored it in a cupboard,” she says. A friend had told her that someone else had tried a similar experiment, to see if the burger would decompose. “I was curious and wanted to try it.”

Hanrahan, who supports organic and natural eating, uses the now twelve-year-old burger as a prop in her Healthy Choices for Children workshop, which shows parents how to explore alternative food options, buy organic food, avoid food additives and preservatives, and plan menus for the family. Kids call Hanrahan the Burger Lady, friends call her Mother Earth, and her own children, neither of whom enjoy McDonald’s, consider her a hero.

Sorry, but I have to call BS on this one. Anyone all disturbed by this, try the following and see what happens:

Cook a piece of bacon as directed on the package. Place it on a shelf in your kitchen with noting around it or touching it. Leave it there for two weeks. You probably won't see any decomposition, unless your kitchen shelves are encrusted with mildew, and even then, I doubt the mold would be able to make serious inroads.

I wouldn't really care, but all this tinfoil-hat food hysteria detracts from any genuine criticism of fast food and its many implications. It's sensationalistic and therefore easily dismissed. By association, all the issues about food raised recently are easily dismissed. It's just another militant pinko vegetarian terrorist liberal, they all say, and go back to rooting in their troughs dining out of a greasy paper bag and providing puckburgers with canned cheese sauce for school lunches.
