The National Recording Registry maintains and preserves recordings -- musical and spoken-word -- which are "culturally, historically or aesthetically important, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States". The Registry's contents reflect over a century of technology, history and genre.

Not an awards process or 'best of' list, the Registry has broad criteria for selection, and a nomination procedure open to the public (at National Recording Preservation Board, Library of Congress).

The Gallery of Monster Toys is dedicated to preserving a disappearing facet of our popular culture. Vintage monster toys are typically overlooked by collectors, largely because they seem obsolete in today's world... These toys capture a time when horror was fun. A time when monsters seemed like "big brothers" to their young fans...This web site is for all those boys and girls who grew up watching Creature Features and Chiller Theaters, reading Famous Monsters of Filmland, and playing with these cherished toys...and for all those who wished they had.
Swiss artist Andreas Gysin refers to ertdfgcvb as "a container for useless Shockwave projects". In fact, much like surface.yugop.com (previous LF post), it's a unique collection of audiovisual interactive experiments, most of which are small in size (less than 1000 kb).

Includes Fan and Ball game (related LF post).
In a frenetic Flash video from 512kb.net, the mascots of Japan's 2ch BBS celebrate a thread reaching its maximum 1000th post.

Quest for the Crown

(requires Flash)

It was a time of legend.
Great heroes wandered the earth, looking for glory.
One such hero was Lord Nonesuch.
He stole a crown and put it somewhere in his impenetrable castle.
It was said that it was certain doom to look for the crown!
Because of the man-eating plants!
But one hero...
YOU...
was ready to look for the crown.
Be steadfast, young warrior...
for darkness had fallen upon the land.
And although there are actually no man-eating plants after all...
there is...
Quest for the Crown

"The variety of ways we've found to amuse ourselves in the streets is amazing. At the drop of a hat, we invent games and through sheer determination make them indispensible and legendary. Using whatever is at hand--bottlecaps, a stick, or the ubiquitous spaldeen--city kids though the ages create games that are the envy of any sportsman or marketeer."

Streetplay.com contains the rules for games which defined childhood for generations of city dwellers, and for many still capture the essence of urban life.

Rulesheets (in Adobe Acrobat .pdf format) are available for downloading and printing. Bring your own equipment.
