The Nintendo Music 75/150 BPM Phenomena

New GNP album on the horizon....
Posted by AaronGNP 11 years ago
Not sure how many of you folks I know are still around here, as I haven't had much time for LF as of late, what with my numerous musical projects (currently numbered at 4 active projects, but that number goes up and down on a weekly basis).

Well, if anyone is interested, I've posted two new songs from my main music outlet, Gabber Nullification Project on our Myspace page. For those of you not in the know, our new album, 2A03 is a hardcore electronic album, based off of the sounds of the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Some of the samples we used are ones that only the diehard NES fans would recognize, and some of the NES sounds were original creations by us (using software based off the original NES chipset).

Anyway, check it out if you're interested. The album should be coming out in a month or so.

Gimme Gimme and mob mentality
Posted by AaronGNP 12 years ago
Yesterday I went downtown St. Paul to shoot the annual St. Patrick's day parade. I got there about 15 minutes early, which was plenty sufficient to get a good spot on the curb of 4th St. I waited patiently while vendors, parade participants and observers passed by.

Finally, noon arrived and the parade began. The lens that I use on my camera has a sufficient zoom on it, and since I am shooting close to my subject (the parade), my spot on the curb should be fine.

I get a few shots of the St. Paul Police Marching Band, and that's about when the fucktards start coming out.

"Hey I'm an old lady with a shitty disposable camera. I think I'm going to walk right into the street, blocking and/or ruining any possible shot you would like, because, well I'm more important"

So I move out into the street a little bit, so I won't have to airbrush "Mrs. Redhair-with-gray-roots" out of every picture.

I see the Mayor of St. Paul coming by on a fire truck. This might make a neat picture for my photoblog (about St. Paul).

"I've got a bright blue jacket on (it's St. Patrick's day?), could give two shits about the guy on the firetruck, and I can't walk on the sidewalk like a normal person, so I'd rather walk parallel to the fire truck and fuck up your pictures."

Well, I got a good shot of the back of the Mayor's head. I move a little further into the street.

"Hey I've got a cartload of shitty St. Patricks day junk that I'm trying to sell to these stooges. To top it off, my shopping cart is stacked 8 feet high full of this chinese-made irish trash. I think a good spot to stop would be... hmmm.... right in front of the guy with the camera".

So I spend the remainder of the parade, hopping from curb to curb, shooting the pictures while I'm in the middle of the street. I got plenty of pictures, and many of them turned out very well, but the experience was maddening.

It started with the old lady and went downhill. The old lady is the same kind of person that makes getting your luggage at the air port a pain in the ass. Everyone could stand 5 feet away from the turnstyle, and this would allow for more people to surround the turnstyle and give people a wide angle of view. But someone has to ruin it. They walk right up to the turnstyle, blocking several people's view. Now for these people to be able to see the turnstyle, they have to move right next to it, and so on and so forth. So now, because one knothead can't sit back and relax, everyone has a 4 foot view of the turnstyle and about half a second to react and grab your bag as it flies by your 2 linear feet of turnstyle squat. I hate that and I hate that old lady.

Fat guy with the blue jacket who's too good to walk on the goddamn sidewalk... I'd understand if the sidewalks were packed and unpassable, but they weren't. It was noon on a Friday, 30 degrees out, and not exactly the largest crowd ever. To top it off, he wasn't wearing a lick of green, making my inclusion of him in the picture about as relevant to St. Patty's day as a picture of a pinecone. One could say "Maybe he just didn't see you, you're only one guy, get over yourself." That'd be fine, except for the fact that there were 3 or 4 other photographers and cameramen right next to me (and we were all very mindful of each other's shots), so if that's the case, he didn't miss just me, but several other (larger) cameras. Fuck you fat blue jacket guy.

And street vendor guy. You're pushing a shopping cart down downtown saint paul. You're on the same level as a homeless person, except you're collecting cash rather than cans. Same goes for this dickhead. WALK ON THE FUCKING SIDEWALK YOU SELF-IMPORTANT SHILL!

I'll post some pictures later, including the shot of the Irish Elvis.

GNP Remixes Soulseek
Posted by AaronGNP 12 years ago
I'm sure most of you don't know this (or don't use Soulseek), but Soulseek's offshoot record label http://www.slskrecords.com/ is running a remix contest. The remix is of a song called "The One" by Saskia. I use Soulseek all the time, so I thought I'd spread the love and try out a GNP remix of this song. I downloaded all the samples, and started working. I didn't even listen to the original, I just started working. Here's the finished product:

Saskia - The One (GNP 16-bit Mix)

Saskia - The One (Original Mix)

After finishing my track, I listened to the original, and I like the GNP version more.

To inflict artificial social morays
An invisible gun to every head, same finger on each trigger watch me
Bring the hammer down before the problem gets much bigger

I don't really want to live in a system this complicated
Why are we afraid to die when life is so over-rated
Trapped inside a little box, every turn a man with a frown
An illusion of possibilities, but the only way out is down

So many reasons why, to give suicide a try

Industrial Band Name Generator
Posted by AaronGNP 12 years ago
So Substandard and I were chatting at work about the band formerly known as Screaming Monkey Boner. They are a local band here in the Twin Cities, and they sound a lot like Mindless Self Indulgence.

Well anyway, SMB recently changed their name to Screaming Mechanical Brain. I've heard rumors that it was to sell more CDs, or get a label deal. Most likely explaination is the one that Sub came up with, is that they don't want their name to sound like a 13 year old came up with it.

Regardless of their reasons (I still think they are a good band, and quite fun to watch), I said to Sub that the new name sounded like it was made by an Industrial Band Name Generator.

Then I got the idea, "Hey, why don't I make one".

So I did.

Well, I've been looking for something to do with this journal, so I decided that every saturday, I'll pick two words, google-image them, and then look through the pictures for suitable subjects. I then will combine the two in some sort of unholy union. I invite everyone to join in, and you don't have to use the same images, but to keep on task, should at least google the same words.

This inagural week, I chose "Fart" and "Blossom".

Photography = RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
Posted by AaronGNP 12 years ago
As many of you know, I was recently robbed, and the burglars took my brand new digital camera, plus other items that were in my photography bag.

I replaced the camera a week or two ago, but I haven’t been able to use my tripod since the theft, because there is an adapter (shoe) that attaches to the bottom of the camera, to allow for quick mounting and dismounting of the tripod. My old shoe was attached to my stolen camera, so I had to order a new shoe.

So I get online about a week ago and order a new shoe and a lens filter for my camera. Well, I received them today via UPS.

I hadn’t used my tripod since the burglary, and I wanted to see how the filter looked, so I put them on and setup my tripod. I shot a couple pictures inside my house, but I was feeling a little lazy, so I setup the tripod next to the window to see how the filter looked when taking pictures of the sky, and just general crap right outside my window.

I shoot a few pictures of the sky, then I pan my camera down, and there is a car in front of my house. I snap a few pictures and notice there is a lady in the car. This is normal, as I live right next to a public library, and the only available parking is right in front of my home. I notice the lady is looking at me photographing her. “Whatever” I think to myself, “I was shooting before she parked her ass in front of my house”. She pulls forward, out of my camera frame, but I leave my camera fixed on the empty road in front of my house.

I shoot maybe 10 more pictures, and put away my camera. I sit down on the couch and watch whatever daytime television has to offer (which isn’t much), and there is a thunderous knock on the front door.

I get up, go to the door, and it’s the same police officer that I filed the burglary case with. I think “Sweet, maybe they found the crook”. I tell him to hold on, while I put my dog away (when he was over the first time, he asked me to put Jerome in a room or in his cage).

I put Jerome away, and open up the door to speak with the officer.

“Have you been photographing cars in front of your house?” he says.

I answer, “Yes, remember how my photography stuff was stolen? Well I purchased replacements and I was testing it out”.

Well, apparently this lady was “freaking out” (Cop’s words) about it. Rather than just chalking it up to some weirdo who’s taking pictures from his OWN house (which as far as I understand, is perfectly legal), she goes to the library, sits on a bench, calls the police, only to find out she’s being a paranoid fuckhead.

But I suppose she had to, or else the “tehrrissts” will have won.

I’ll post the pictures of this bitch later.

PS. I found the whole scenario funny, and really a waste of time for the police officer. Thanks lady.
