Concerts I've been to
Posted by Birdieguy 7 years ago
OK guys I need some help.

I know I posted a list (SOMEWHERE) of the concerts I've been to. I've searched my LF blog, my old Myspace blog, and even my site, and can't find it anywhere. Not gonna be Facebook.

Now I suddenly realized I'm certain I posted it as a comment here at Linkfilter. How in the hell can I find it? Gonna do a few searches while I wait for whatever help you guys can give me.

Thanks!

Birth of a Site
Posted by Birdieguy 8 years ago
Hey guys..

Well, a few days ago I launched a new site! You are all cordially invited to come check it out, leave feedback, bookmark it, and live by it!! Just kidding.. but only about the cordial invitation.

LOL

It's young, but you won't know it after about a week, as I usually make several posts per day. It's partly a personal blog, but is primarily a collection of stuff I find interesting. If you do a lot of web-surfing, or even just a little looking around, add it to your favorites. If you like it come back & check on me occasionally - you won't be disappointed!

Remember just clicking on Ads makes people money :) Why didn't everyone do that a decade ago??

Give a click get a click, you know the deal.. lol enjoy!!

Twit Twat Anal
Posted by Birdieguy 8 years ago
Anyone who Twitters, has gone anal. It's facebook's and myspace's "status messages" to an n-th degree. If you are twittering, then you are consumed with the fallacy that people actually care about what you're doing at every moment.

Twitter simply took much better social networks, and tried to make them into a glorified chat function. Who really needs to know every aspect of your life??

You'll never see me twittrering......
Game-1's
Posted by Birdieguy 9 years ago
"I don't know what's going on with those Game 1's but every time they're not starting well. There's no panic, just like if we won the game, you stay at the same level mentally. Now we're just going to go back and watch some film and come back stronger on Monday."

--Tony Parker, 4/18/2009

Anyone who knows these Spurs (1998-present) knows we've lost a lot of game 1's for some odd reason. In the 2006 West finals when we lost to the Mavs in one of the greatest series I remember (which we lost in game 7 at home), we won game-1.

We lost game-1 against Denver in round-1 of our '07 Championship season, which we won in 5. Same exact thing in '05. In '03 Phoenix beat us in the first game in round-1, a series we won 4-2. Then in the West finals that year against none other than Dallas, they beat us in game-1, and we went on to win in 6.

Minnesota 1999 round-1 game-1 was another.. That was the season when this Spurs dynasty began.

I'm not worried.
New Metallica
Posted by Birdieguy 9 years ago
This post is directed toward true Metallica fans. If any of you remember the anticipation that existed between the summer of '88 (while you totally wore out And Justice for All), and the summer of '91, when the Black album was released, you probably remember how happy you were to finally get some new Metallica.

The Black album was so different than what we ever expected, it probably seemed "bad" to you at first listen. But if you're anything like me you gave it chance after chance after chance, and eventually you grew to like it as much as I did. This was it. This was the new Metallica. It was different but it was great.

Hetfield was actually singing a little.. lol Things had changed, and as much as it differed from the other releases, it also began to hold its own for you, if not surpass expectations. For me, nothing could eclipse the four studio albums before it, but this one was unique, and satisfied a ton of people as being - again- the new Metallica.

But none of the rest did that for me. They obviously went through a funk, or whatever. But very little new material they put out for 12 years did much for me with the exception of a few tracks.....

Until now. If you haven't given Death Magnetic a try, and another, and a few weeks' worth of listenings, you should. This album is incredible. No one wants to say "this is old Metallica", or "this is better than the first four (or five) albums," that's not the point. This is the New Metallica, and it is VERY good. If you are a true Metallica fan, and felt something from '83 to '91, then you will feel it again.

The best track is without a doubt "All Nightmare Long". It's obvious they spent a long, long time here. The instrumental "Suicide & Redemption" is also very well done. The two radio-releases, "The Day that Never Comes" and "Cyanide" contain tons of elements you remember from those glorious 8 years. The acoustic riff in the former gives me chills it's so much like Fade to Black. Even "Unforgiven III" after giving it very little chance is a great track, regardless of the fact that it is a III to a great Black Album creation.

Give it a chance - it's incredible.

Big FFL question
Posted by Birdieguy 9 years ago
OK.. all you fantasy football gurus out there I have a question:

First off, here's my team (10-team league; normal scoring.. QB 1/20, RB-WR 1/10, all TDs 6; 1pt per reception)

QB McNabb/Hasslebeck
RB Portis/McGahee/Edge/RBrown/LWhite/MBush
WR TO/Housh/VJackson/CStuckey/KWalter//KCurtis
TE Winslow
K Akers
D Dallas/Seattle

Adding Ronnie Brown on waivers this past week, b/c a guy got trigger-happy to release him, I suddenly became ultra deep at RB (obviously).

I have a fellow owner, who lost Brady and is really hurting at QB, agreeing to Hasslebeck/Portis FOR Colston.

Do I do it??? Jason Campbell is there for me to add and is a perfect bye-week fill-in for McNabb (Wash vs. Clev. that week)

Just because this is a place to post it...

I love Grand Theft Auto, and Vice City is my current flavor. I'm at about 90% completion, but I love doing vigilante missions. And I know tons of you use the Rhino tank or the Hunter Apache helicopter to do these (see various YouTube videos). I have done these, but I much prefer using the FBI Cheetahs (and police cars & FBI Ranchers when necessary).

My previous record was 318 kills & level 31.

The other night I did this:

Yeah, that's 910..

Yep.. That was 1264 kills, Level 110.. NO Rhinos.. NO Hunters.. Wheeeeeeeee!

The Lakers have beaten the Suns (twice), Spurs and Pistons en route to an 18-10 record.

LOS ANGELES --- At this rate it won't be long before the Lakers will have a rivalry with the Phoenix Suns.

We can't say that yet, at least not if we adhere to the regulations once set forth by Kobe Bryant. After the Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings in that draining 2002 Western Conference finals, I asked Bryant if the Kings were the Lakers' biggest rivals. He said I couldn't use that word. "They've got to beat us in the playoffs first," Bryant said. "C'mon, you know the rules."

So maybe the Lakers' 122-115 victory over the Suns at Staples Center didn't change the terminology, and maybe Suns Coach Mike D'Antoni could afford to say "This doesn't bother me," seeing how it came in the regular season.

But after the Suns bounced the Lakers from the playoffs the past two seasons, the Lakers finally look ready to take a seven-game series from them for the first time since Steve Nash arrived in Phoenix.

That's one revelation from this game. The other is that Phil Jackson looks incredibly goofy in a red bow tie. Hopefully it will be banished to the bottom of a dresser drawer.

We have a solid foundation. We really do. We have length, we have speed, we have quickness, we have shot-blocking. We have guys that can steal the ball. We have playmakers. It's looking very solid.
--Kobe Bryant talks about his L.A. Lakers
But the thing that's likely to make another appearance come playoff time is Andrew Bynum. If he's going to put up numbers like this -- a career-high 28 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots -- he gives the Lakers the perfect weapon to go at the Suns' size weakness. "He's a handful," Suns forward Shawn Marion said. "They've got a legitimate big man."

Phil Jackson and Bryant did their best to provide the disclaimers. They remember how the Lakers stumbled to a 42-40 record after being 13 games above .500 at one point last season, and they haven't forgotten Bynum's fade after a promising start last year.

"We just want to maintain what we are about," Jackson said. "Every game, come out and play that kind of game, show consistency. At the end of the year, if [Bynum] is the MVP, then we'll say what a great year he's had."

With Bynum in the frontcourt along with Lamar Odom (who pounds the Suns on the boards and had 14 more rebounds Tuesday) the Lakers forced the Suns to go with a big lineup of Amare Stoudemire, Brian Skinner, Boris Diaw and Marion for a long stretch in the fourth quarter. That kept one of Phoenix's top 3-point shooters (and primary Kobe defender), Raja Bell, on the bench.

The other thing that's changed from Lakers-Suns games in the past is Phoenix's domination at the point guard position. To paraphrase Rose Royce, Smush don't live here anymore. Sure, Nash still gets the check in the matchup box, but with the return of Derek Fisher and the improvement of Jordan Farmar, the difference isn't as pronounced as it used to be. Last year, Nash outscored Parker by an average of 22 to nine. In two games so far this year -- both won by the Lakers -- Fisher has the difference down to a respectable 22 to 17.

Bynum also exposed Stoudemire's slow defensive rotations and reluctance to box out. And Bynum and Fisher negate the arrival of Grant Hill -- especially after new Laker acquisition Trevor Ariza helped keep Hill to only two second-half points. (How about Ariza, making the most of his first Lakers start and 33 minutes to get 14 points, seven rebounds and the highlight of the game: throwing down a dunk over a planted Hill the way Kobe did Nash a couple of years ago).

Ariza's athleticism, Bynum's height, Fisher's vet presence ... what are we leaving out? Oh yeah, Kobe. He was the superior superstar in the end, outperforming Nash and taking over the fourth quarter when he scored 12 of his 38 points.

You still won't get him to gush about this team. At one point he nearly apologized for his basic, "Belichicky" answers that sounded a lot like the hooded coach. But Kobelichick did allow that: "We have a solid foundation. We really do. We have length, we have speed, we have quickness, we have shot-blocking. We have guys that can steal the ball. We have playmakers. It's looking very solid."

It's looking like a team that can compete with the Suns, whom they trail by only one game in the Pacific Division and shouldn't fear if they meet in the postseason. D'Antoni didn't sound panicky. "I think we're pretty good," he said. "Last time I checked we were one or two games off the lead in the West." Notice that, unlike the testy exchange at the end of their last meeting, he didn't talk about busting the Lakers in the playoffs.
A Red wine mixer for beer drinkers
Posted by Birdieguy 10 years ago
OK Here we go...

You're out of beer, but you have red wine. And yes, it sucks.

(First go get a six pack and don't deal with it.)

Then... after that beer's gone:

Mix 1 part Red Wine, and 2 parts Sprite, or Ginger Ale, or whatever white soda there is.

Add a ton of ice, and the kicker: 2 Teaspoons of sugar... because the reason the red wine sucks is because it's too dry and bitter.

Let me know how you like it.

Life seems only as good as your last really good memory
Posted by Birdieguy 10 years ago
...It's been a long while since the plethora of things on my mind has been outweighed by a single great event. I handle it all finely.. sanely.. by simply enjoying both the simple things & everyday things that I am extremely thankful to have: The best woman in the world, both my parents even still, my dogs that I love & enjoy dearly, the career that I've long desired, my music that can take me away at any time, and the prospect of what is always very possible in the future.

In light of things that have been going on lately, I guess I shouldn't complain about my life. But I wouldn't be posting this if there were no complaints. The last couple of years of my life have been two of my most introspective and self-revealing years that I could have ever imagined. I have come a long, long way from many times when I was nowhere near what I am today. And for this, if only this, I am happy inside despite a whole, whole lot!

Career Opportunities
Posted by Birdieguy 10 years ago
Have you ever asked yourself:

Where will I be in five years in my current position?

Do I really enjoy my current job and lifestyle?

Will I be able to attain all of my personal, financial, and career goals where I am now?

Could I provide a better life and financial security for my family?

Who is that comedian?
Posted by Birdieguy 11 years ago
OK, you guys can always come up with the answer when anyone needs one. I'm trying to think of the name of a stand-up comedian. I can picture him in my mind, but have been unable to identify him with searches, et al.

He's older.. probably in his late forties or fifties. Normal build.. He wears glasses (I think). I also see him with reddish curly hair, and a mustache. He makes the bug-eye face quite a bit. And his style was similar to Sam Kinison, in that he'd loudly over-emphasize parts of most sentences (usually the last part), while making the bug-eye look.

Anyone?? It's blowin my mind...

A Smacking I'll Never Forget

For the longest time in my life, my all-time list of favorite bands began with "Rush, Metallica..." About 5-6 years ago, Dream Theater impressed me enough to not only make the list, but take over the first spot. No, they are by no means a leader in the genre we call rock music. They're obscure, but have a solid devoted following, and are the most talented musicians on the planet.

Over the course of several decades, there were bands who could be thought of as ones who "led the genre" (whatever that may be, but in this case it's hard rock 'n' roll). Surely at one time it was Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Rush & Pink Floyd in their own one-of-a-kind live show way, and probably Aerosmith and AC/DC at one time. But for the last, say, 10 or 12 years, that leader was Metallica... until now...

The new leader is Godsmack. Not only that, but I believe they have surpassed Metallica to 3rd on my list. We'll see what happens to them now that they are in such a position. It didn't bode well for Metallica, who haven't done a great job with their fame & fortune (not to mention their music) since then. Kudos to the guys of Aerosmith, Rush, and Pink Floyd who have lasted, and become legends in their own right.

Last night was the Godsmack, Rob Zombie, and Shinedown show, and I had to share some of the pretty good pictures we got. These were excellent seats, and they should be ...for as much as we paid for them. Seeing a concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater has actually sucked until last night, but it's a top-notch venue when you're this close!

Enjoy!

Ex is up to her BS again
Posted by Birdieguy 11 years ago
I don't even know why I'm wasting one more minute of my time with this, but I'm frankly just sick of the bullshit, and want it to stop. I get home the other day, and my wife tells me that my ex posted on her yahoo profile that "Steph and I need to stay out of her life." I'm flabbergasted, of course. There hasn't been any contact between us since she mailed my entire family a bunch of lewd stuff that someone spread around about her (she thought it was me).

Once again, I've apparently been accused of something I did not do.

Anyway, my wife and I both sent her a few messages requesting that she remove our names from her profile. All she does is take out our last name. For some stupid reason, she won't take it out. I guess it's another one of her desperate attempts at getting attention... who knows... But it remains true that if someone posts this, either what I just mentioned is true, or she is being harassed by someone and naively thinking it's me.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I couldn't care any less about you! You don't exist to me anymore.

So how do I handle this? Ignore it? Reinforce we want the false accusations to cease? Turn her in for ... I guess defamation of character? LOL Play along with it and be in her life - and make it unbearable - until she acknowledges our request?

No surprise that the things that keep popping up where she is concerned are directly consistent with the way it ended with her: Me being accused of something I did not do.

Geeeeez............... What a waste of thought.

Bush on Bin Laden
Posted by Birdieguy 12 years ago
At Buzzflash: Bush Quotes about Bin Laden (reproduced in its entirety).

For your amusement and future reference, here's what Bush has said about bin Laden at various points in time, depending on how he was trying to spin things:

9/13/01 "The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."
9/17/01 "I want justice...There's an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive,'"
12/28/01 "...Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county [sic]. Now he's maybe in control of a cave. He's on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that's what's happening. He's on the run, if he's running at all. So we don't know whether he's in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open -- we just don't know...."
3/13/02 "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
4/8/02 "I am truly not that concerned about him."

Here's another one from March 1, 2006:

"I am confident he will be brought to justice. What's happening is, is that we got U.S. forces on the hunt for not only bin Laden, but anybody who plots and plans with bin Laden. There are Afghan forces on the hunt for not only bin Laden, but those who plot and plan with him. We've got Pakistan forces on the hunt. And part of my message to President Musharraf is, is that it's important that we bring these people to justice. He understands that. After all, they've tried to kill him four times. So we've got a common alliance, all aimed at routing out people who are evildoers, people who have hijacked a great religion and kill innocent people in the name of that religion."

Question of the week II --Please Help--
Posted by Birdieguy 12 years ago
OK, last week's battle with the "safetydefender" (atmclk.exe, dcomcfg.exe, etc.) hijack of my home page (and all the other BS that goes along with it) is spilling over into this week in a way that is really frustrating.

I've done a ton of scans over this time period, and although I'm clean now, SOMETHING has changed in my settings, and I can no longer view videos at most websites. You know, like those stupidvideos.com sites where the little clips are embedded? All I see now is an empty box with a little "x" in the top left corner. The only differences in my system now than before are that I'm now running in the background both Spyware Doctor and SpywareBlaster, in addition to what I already had (Norton Internet Security and AdAware SE Plus from Lavasoft).

I don't know what else to do. My gut tells me it's an ActiveX issue, but the settings in Internet Options\Security\Custom Level have all been adjusted to a very generous level (which both new AV Programs do not like), and nothing. Under the advanced tab, I've got all the appropriate things checked to be able to view video, etc. I've added sites to zones (bad idea), downloaded the latest Microsoft ActiveX updates, and even completely disabled Spyware Doctor & SpywareBlaster, and everything I can think of, and I have no idea what else there is to do. Windows Media Player is the player I use for almost everything, and it works fine -- when there is a link to download certain clips, everything works fine (except now I get the little download progress box, and I didn't before. Sometimes I have to click "cancel" for it to work. But this is all when I click a download link, so IMHO irrelevant.)

I know my PC is much safer now, and I should probably just "suck it up" and quit worrying about not being able to watch a few video clips here & there, but damn! I'm almost willing to take the risks, especially now that I'm running more anti-spyware software.

Does anyone have any ideas??????
