Vote Greg
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
Greg (my husband) created an open-source demo game for the Intel Game Demo 2007 contest in an attempt to win some prizes and fame. Voting time is upon us, and he needs votes to secure a spot in the top 10.
Please drop by here (clicky) and rate his game. He'd appreciate a thumbs-up (but won't hold it against you if you honestly vote him down).
You can also try out the game from that link or view the 9mb WMV trailer.
If you don't mind, since big cash prizes are involved and all, you can also post about this in your own blog to get votes. But only if you like.
Thanks in advance for voting!

Baby Today
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
Greg and I found out yesterday they've moved our induction date to this evening at 6 Pm. Because of the way they're doing it - slowly - I still probably won't have her until Wednesday morning, but I just wanted to keep friends updated on the subject. I'm excited!
Induction date and time
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
If I don't update before then, my induction date is May 23 at 6 AM.
Just wanted to pass along the info. I have a bunch of pre-labor symptoms, but nothing conclusive. I wish I could report more, but I don't want to be misleading.
Anya will be here extremely soon, though. I'm really looking forward to this pregnancy being over. I can't imagine life without hyperemesis.
Question about the Colorblind Gene. Will Anya be color blind?
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
I'm colorblind, I have two recessive color blinds on both X chromosomes. Greg is not colorblind. He added a dominant non-color blind on the X chromosome that he gave to Anya. So what does this mean? What's the chance that Anya will have it?
I can't do those grid things. THey hurt my brain. And I haven't found a link on google about it yet.
OMG i want this pregnancy to be over!
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
I'm 38 weeks, 1 day today. I have a doctor's appointment today. Family is starting to visit here and there. People are starting to ask the annoying question, "hey, have you had your baby yet?" I want this to be over now! Being underweight before I got pregnant, it's incredible to me that I've gained 60 lbs and my doctor says that's perfectly okay and no, pregnant Kassi photos do not want to come out and play.
The other day I stubbed my toe because I couldn't see past my belly.
I swear I'm having twins or tripplets. There's no way a singleton is in there.

ETA: Decided to go with google maps.
I started a community via livejournal for people who knit in Arkansas. I'm looking to make a map, but only of Arkansas, and have it be like frapper so that I can put pins or markers on the map of where "cool" yarn shops are around Arkansas so that any new members can have a reference for recommended yarn shops. Does anyone know of a preexisting map program that will let me do this? I haven't even looked into seeing if Frapper offers this kind of thing. I figured people on linkfilter would know, though. I'd much rather use a pre-existing program than make one up myself. Thanks!

Facts to Ponder
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
Saw this in a friend's lj and wanted to repost it here.
Doctors And Guns
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.
Now think about this...
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million..)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188
Statistics courtesy of the FBI
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember - "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

Top 10 books/book recommendations
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
As part of my 2007 goals, one of them is to read 50 books this year. I'm looking for book recommendations and also curious what other people's views are on literature. So please comment here if you wish to share your top 10 most influential/best/interesting books that you have read. I am open to any controversial subject, too. I don't mind if you post a repeat of one that I've listed as I'm also just interested in other people's favorite books as well. For diversity, keep series (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter) as just one book. Here's my list:
1. The Pains of April by: Frank Turner Hollon
2. Bambi by: Felix Salten
3. Illusions by: Richard Bach
4. Slaughterhouse-5 by: Kurt Vonnegut
5. Hitchhiker's guide series by: Douglas Adams
6. Harry Potter series by: JK Rowling
7. The unbearable Lightness of being by: Milan Kundera
8. Night by: Eli Weisel
9. Survivor by: Chuck Palahniuk
10. The Bell Jar by: Sylvia Plath
Honorable Mentions: 1984, The Stranger, Jesus' Son, The bible

Baby Update
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
Mama's doing fine. I'm currently 22 weeks along today. Tomorrow is my next ultrasound and hopefully we'll be able to tell the gender (finally!). Greg and I both can feel the kicking. I've learned the heavenly properties of seasalt baths (lukewarm, of course since the baby can't regulate its own temperature yet). I've not stopped throwing up, but I have a bad morning sickness day about once every 4 days or so. My body is growing and I'm getting a lot of stretch ("stress") marks. I'm making sure I'm putting lotions and things like that on them, but right now I don't feel as much like a "hot mamma" the way I did before.
My energy is back, but instead of spending it a lot on linkfilter, I've used it to concentrate on other, much needed things like house cleaning and working here and there.
I'm doing well and so is Greg. We're both very excited about the new addition. I can't wait to see the baby tomorrow - even if they can't tell us the gender. But I sure do hope they can!
pregnancy progress
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
I'm currently 17 weeks and two days pregnant. The last ultrasound (yesterday), the baby wouldn't give up the money shot, but hopefully we'll get to know the gender on our next ultra sound which will be January 15th. I'm still getting routine sickness but my energy levels are back up to normal. I can feel the baby kick, which is very interesting but distracting when I want to go to sleep.
According to the doctor yesterday, everything is going just fine. The baby is healthy, I'm healthy, and everything is measuring correctly (including my weight).

Essential Pregnancy Q&A
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.
Q: I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.
Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?
A: Childbirth.
Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labor, but pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.
Q: When is the best time to get an epidural?
A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.
Q: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labor?
A: Not unless the word "alimony" means anything to you.
Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?
A: Yes, pregnancy.
Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly.
Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again?
A: When the kids are in college.

To Help
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
If posting this site will help an innocent girl get the protection she needs because a few of my more compassionate friends may take action, so be it.
A mother with strong evidence that their 3 year old daughter is being sexually molested by her father(including a hospital visit with a torn labia while in the custody of her father, video tapes of the child screaming/crying and accusing the father of doing these things, and a failed lie detector test showing that the father is guilty to all of the accusations), went to child protective services and the court to get protection for her daughter and the court system failed to protect the child. Regardless of if the accusation is true or not, it's clear that further investigation of the father needs to be had before a decision can be made about custody. The father is RIGHT NOW allowed UNSUPRIVISED visits with his daughter.
Desparate, the mother went to Dr Phil, who turned up even more evidence (such as the father's dad has served jail time for molesting an 8 year old boy, etc...). The court is ignoreing Dr Phil's evidence even though he has provided much more resources to the court such as a very rigorous lie detecting test of ALL parties involved, and extensive interviews and footage.
If you feel at all moved to help this family out, visit the site at the top of the page - it provides phone numbers and other ways of contacting the court system to urge them to reconsider their decision.
Change your mind about Parenting once you were a parent?
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
Was there a fundamental parenting idea or guideline that you changed your mind about once you became a parent? For example (none of these reflect the opinion of the poster): views on spanking, religion, the parents should (don't have to) be married, public/private schooling, nutrition, drugs, etc....
Post comments. I'm very interested in this topic as I'll be a part of the "parent" group here in about 6 -7 months. : )

I gotta stalker
Posted by Kassi42 12 years ago
I'm going to make this brief. I have a stalker who has hit up just about every other place that I am on the Internet, so I'd assume there's a good chance she might hit me up here. Basically, she's just an irrational person from my past, someone I knew in High School and haven't talked to for years. I do know she's diagnosed with some sort of mental disorder that involves psychosis, such as bipolar (not that there's anything wrong with that - just that from her recent behavior she's probably off her meds). Anyway, if she happens to surface here, just know that I'm doing the best I can to minimalize contact with her as I've filed a police report for threatening me in my lj and on Myspace and that things are in the process of getting resolved.
It's funny - I did a NCS and saw how Fluffy had commented that annoyances seem to be the result of your own behavior. In this case, it's really the result of someone who isn't rational, and my behavior is trying to promote her not contacting me and such.
: ) Anyway, that is all.
