Throughout the past several years, call-outs publicizing abuse in the music industries have reverberated far and wide. Activists of all stripes, inspired in part by the #MeToo movement, are broadcasting behavior by eminent artists ranging from the deeply unsavory to the gravely criminal. When put forward, these claims (some contritely acknowledged, others vehemently denied) often confirm the rumors and whisper campaigns that long lingered around the accused: from the respective "kings" of pop and R&B, to demigod conductors of Western art music, and from jazz's modern heroes, to idols of niche rock circles, such as Ryan Adams, Michael Gira of Swans, Ethan Kath of Crystal Castles, Jesse Lacey of Brand New, Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson, and Mark E. Smith of the Fall.

Wow.

Thanks for sharing this. It's a fascinating piece and goes really deep. I guess I never really thought of TOPY as being a real thing. I just assumed it was a handful of people and everything I knew about it was due to P-Orridge's need to make everything sound grand and important.

I bought the TOPY bible (or whatever it's called) and couldn't get through more than a few pages. It was tedious and obvious. I've always been resistant to scenes to a fault, so I guess I was never the intended audience. I was always fascinated by GP-O, but I was often unsure about him. I've found myself in his presence a few times over the last decade and have made a conscious decision not to say hello or chat. Of course, it was more of a "never meet your heroes" thing than a "stay away from this awful person" thing. Little did I know. I did start to think more and more that he was just a charlatan, if an exceptional one, especially after hearing about the allegations from Cosey Fanni Tutti, who's book I just bought after reading this.

I've never known much about GPO and couldn't name a PTV song if you asked me. I knew you would get a kick out of this though, thus the post.
