My memory ...
kingskyprawn: ... of an advertiement that scared me, was from when I must have been aroud 5 or 6 years old.

I had been read the story about Hansel and Gretel and how the wicked witch had tried to fatten them up to proper eating weight.

I think that story was in the back of my mind when I saw in a magazine an advertisement for stoves. There was a gal which, I perceive now, dressed in a costume that was supposed to suggest a blue gas flame. But to my child's eyes, she seemed fantastically fat. And she was standing next to an open stove, smiling.

WHY ARE YOU SMILING!? THE WICKED WITCH IS GOING T COOK YOU! GET AWAY FROM THE OVEN! RUN! RUN!

For days I couldn't bare to look at that ad, because the fat person was so oblivious to her certain doom.

crataegus: If you've got a passion for fashion
And you've got a craving for savings
Just take the wheel of your automobile
And come on down to Ideal.

I'd have nightmares of having to drive to this place in a big wheel at the age of four. Ideal was like a low rent version of Loehmann's. Yes. A low. rent. version.
